  Second Chance pairs youths with seniors....Area youths bonded with residents of area nursing homes as part of Second Chance-Last Opportunity's "Week of Caring and Sharing" from Aug. 13 to 17....Fifty young people between 6 and 16 participated in arts and crafts sessions and team building exercises at the Newtown Community Center, and shared ice cream and songs with the residents of the The Pines of Sarasota and JH Floyd Sunshine Manor...Those who participated were rewarded with a shopping trip Aug. 17 to stock up with back-to-school supplies using donated Wal-Mart gift cards....In keeping with SCLO's philosophy of offering a hand-up, not a handout, the youths shopped with calculators, gaining lasting money management skills, as well as choosing the supplies they needed to start the school year prepared.
