Our food pantry is bare!
Please consider organizing a non-perishable food drive at your place of work, neighborhood, school, etc. to help us re-stock our shelves.

"Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day. Teach them how to fish and they feed themselves for life" is more than just a saying for us. It is exactly why the main aim of Second Chance is to offer life management skills training to help a disadvantaged population gain skills and confidence to break the pattern of dependency and depression.
We have found that by exposing our youth to strategies to manage their finances, time, and negative emotions as well as developing communication, employment, and parenting skills, they are better equipped and more motivated to become self-sufficient and actively and positively control their future. The celebratory events we organize such as the Men’s ‘Walk Worthy’ Conference, Black History Month Celebrations, and Graduation Ceremonies all help build confidence and reinforce the strength in the skills and sense of community our clients gain from attending the life management training program. We partner with other organizations such as the Sarasota County Department of Health, Community Aids Network (CAN), SPARCC (Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center), Florida's Health and the Women’s Resource Center of Sarasota County to augment the counseling and classes offered by SCLO. By attending SCLO classes, clients are eligible for the Holiday Assistance programs which include Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter food/gift baskets, back-to-school supplies, youth programs, and baby supplies distributions. |
